This coin, with the legend of which says ''new metal'' or ''new coin'', is most likely struck at Melle's mint. Some experts think that this coin came from a recasting of coins from the first period, in this mint, to create the new denarius. This type is the only coin with the Karolus monogram on the reverse, therefore with the legend EX MEALLo NoVo.
