Denarius, type 1, var 5
HLVDOVVICVS IP (circular legend around a cross surrounded by a circle made up of dots, a cross between the letter P and the letter H. One globule in the letter O?).
VEN _ ECIAS (inscribed in two lines, a cross to the left of the letter V, a globule between VEN and ECIAS).
Photo of the copy preserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (public domain), link to the page of their website showing the photo of the coin: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b104137196.r=louis%20le%20pieux?rk=944210;4.
On the obverse one can read IP or MP since often, on the whole coinage of this mint for Louis The Pious, the letter M is badly inscribed. It misses for example the middle of the letter or it is stuck between the last vertical bar and the letter P. The globule which I noted in the description of obverse with “?” Is uncertain. It may be a defect or a break, but we find this same globule on a coin sold by Monnaie d'Antan (type with complete obverse legend), link to the sale: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4998389. This coin also has points on the reverse which are not globules but defaults.
