AME (the letters M and E mixed, one globule above and another below the letter M).

There may be other globules on the reverse, off the blank or missing with wear. Another denarius probably of the same type, sold by cgb.fr, shows a globule between the letter A and the letter M, see the coin here: https://www.cgb.fr/pepin-ier-dit-le-bref-denier-b-,v35_0001,a.html. Too broken to create a line ''var 1'', it lacks too many elements to be able to classify it with certainty.
